"My 7-8th grade Social Studies unit on slavery was submitted and chosen by as an exemplar unit using the EQuIP (Educators Evaluating the Quality of Instructional Products) rubric. EQUIP "is an initiative designed to identify high-quality materials aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). The objectives are two-fold: 1. Increase the supply of high quality lessons and units aligned to the CCSS that are available to elementary, middle, and high school teachers as soon as possible; and 2. Build the capacity of educators to evaluate and improve the quality of instructional materials for use in the classrooms and schools." The unit can be found at It is "Slavery Unit" submitted by the Idaho State Department of Education (it was created as an assignment for Cohort 1 with the Idaho Core Teachers). It is now available to a national audience as an example of using the Core Standards. It is also an inquiry-based unit which utilizes many of the strategies learned during the BSWP."
